Heat and blood circulation do not mix well

  • The veins of the lower limbs have the difficult task of raising blood to the heart. Only here, subject to the gravitational pull of gravity, they have a hard time circulating this blood which has an unfortunate tendency to stagnate in your calves, your ankles and your feet. They are equipped with valves (sort of small check valves that prevent the blood from coming down), but sun and heat helping in summer, they become less effective. As a result, the blood goes up badly and the pressure in the veins becomes such that, at the bottom of the legs, the plasma passes through the vessels, infiltrates the tissues and creates edema.
  • This situation is not peculiar to pregnancy, but the famous estrogen and progesterone, which are at their head during this period, help to accentuate the problem. Not only do they dilate the walls of the veins, causing an even more difficult rise, but they also increase the blood volume. Overloaded and very dilated, the veins have more trouble doing their work.

In late pregnancy, place to venous problems

  • In late pregnancy, around the 6th or 7th month, the uterus has significantly increased in volume and compressed veins. Everything becomes even more difficult. In addition to the very uncomfortable feeling of heavy legs, you find yourself for all these reasons in a vulnerable situation facing venous problems. You notice on your legs fine red, blue or purplish traces. They are minivarices, or varicosities, which touch the small superficial veins; they will not turn into varicose veins (the latter, unsightly and posing more serious problems, are due to very large dilatation of the vessels).

Expose gradually, for a few minutes only the first days. Apply of course a very protective sunscreen and run away from hot hours (between 12 pm and 16 pm).
  • You must at all costs avoid sunburn, responsible for the appearance of these ugly little red vessels that doctors call telangiectasia.

Walking: for a circulation in good working order

  • You have two allies to help you streamline your traffic. The calf muscles that contract when you walk and thus chase blood up your body.
